In partnership with Willmott Dixon, Turner & Townsend Suiko’s operational excellence and business transformation programme for enhanced process improvement and productivity, has generated successful outcomes at Havering Borough Council’s prestigious £30m Romford Leisure Centre development.
Turner & Townsend Suiko was commissioned by Willmott Dixon to introduce a lean construction methodology to enhance the project performance. The scheme which involved the highly complex design challenge of delivering an ice rink built with tiered seating for approximately 800 spectators on top of an eight lane swimming pool, amidst numerous other technical challenges.
The pool features a moveable floor that can be adjusted for younger swimmers or lowered to create a flat 2 m-deep bottom. Fitness and dance studios, a gym as well as sauna and steam rooms complete the facilities.
Utilising Suiko’s tried and tested methodology, the project team were able to increase productivity to deliver the perfect combination of product-on-time and on budget. The project was kept on track through a robust programme of coaching and mentoring, daily reviews and rigorous behavioural and performance measures. The successful programme united the entire team from senior management down to the individual site contract trade teams.
