We are truly delighted for our client Willmott Dixon on the recent double award success at the SPACES (Society for Public Architecture, Construction, Engineering and Surveying) Awards for the Sapphire Ice and Leisure Centre in Romford. The team picked up prestigious awards for Best Community Building and the coveted prize of Civic Building of the Year.
Simon Cook, Senior Operations Manager, Willmott Dixon commented: “The success of this project truly lies in the collaborative one-team approach from all parties throughout the whole project; the absence of ego’s and everyone pulling in the same direction for the good, and ultimately the success, of the project. It really could not have been done without everyone’s efforts and hard work at every step and stage of the project. These awards bear testament to that and recognise a fantastic project and a fantastic building.”
Chris Jones, Director, Turner & Townsend Suiko: “It’s great to see the impact of a great team, great behaviours and great practices to achieve great results, we are absolutely delighted for the Willmott Dixon team.”
Willmott Dixon commissioned Turner & Townsend Suiko to assist with the build of the state-of-the-art Leisure Centre in Romford. Typically constructions of this nature are problematic and are rarely on time and to budget. This project was particularly complicated as an ice rink had been designed at the first floor level directly above the swimming pool. Working with Suiko’s award-winning Operational Excellence process and practice, the Leisure Centre opened on budget and due to the certainty of the completion date, two months earlier than originally planned.
